David Lewis joined QSS at the beginning of the 2003 spring silage season. He is based in Wangaratta. He grew up on a mixed farming enterprise in North East Victoria. Seasonal work with harvesting and baling contractors provided great exposure to a wide cross section of farming operations in South East Australia, while experience in the earthmoving and agricultural industry enabled him to work in large feedlots.
Over ten years as a farm manager, David has supervised the production of thousands of tonnes of spring and autumn silage. Working with a wide variety of crops, soils and seasons has given David depth as well as breadth of experience - experiences not easily matched in the silage industry. In addition to David's extensive forage program responsibilities, he has also been involved in engaging and managing a range of sub-contractors, not only in agriculture but also in areas including earthworks, engineering and maintenance projects.
David has a sound working knowledge of animal nutrition and health challenges in intensive livestock feeding systems, along with waste management systems for forage production. At QSS, David initially worked as a project manager on pasture silage projects in the Goulburn Valley, which led to managing silage projects in many different environments from northern to southern Australia.
David is a reliable reference person for all conserved feeds information. His geographical base includes 70% of the dairy cows in Australia and Australia's biggest feedlot. A high percentage of the Angus cattle sourced for the long fed Japanese feedlot trade come out of his area of influence.
David's strong relationship with his customers will enable him to be a strong influence in bringing new technology to the market. He is looking forward to working with the new technologies that are part of the Form Feed brand.
